We work to provide a transparent and inspiring change in the refugee community. Reconnection was established in 2009 with the aim of helping refugee communities resettle in the UK. With 90% of the Reconnection team having lived the same experiences ourselves, we now want to help others with the same legal, health, and economic issues.
What’s a better way to socialize than meeting at a coffee shop? The Coffee Chat Shop is an integral part of our refugees’ social lives, helping them develop a sense of community. The reason behind introducing this project was to help refugees improve their communication skills while building new relationships and friendships within UK society.
When a young refugee travels to seek safety, they leave their home and family behind. They may or may not have any family in the UK to help them rebuild their lives during the early stages of immigration. Many refugees plan on staying in the UK for a long period and want to work towards a better life quality, including learning English, British values, and heritage. They aim to get an education and eventually find a job to support themselves. The Refugee Support Program by Reconnection supports refugees through numerous cultural activities in the UK. The biggest challenge is to estimate the actual number of refugees seeking support.
Upon arriving in a new country, the biggest challenge for the refugees is to understand the system and remove the language barrier. The Orientation Program allows a refugee to understand how things work in the UK quickly. We try our best to facilitate refugees’ resettlement in their new country.
